Legislative Recommendations for the 81st Legislature |
TBEC believes an effective pre-K -16 education system in Texas is the key to the state’s long term economic vitality. Economic growth and workforce demands are sustained by highly-skilled talent responsive to the workforce needs of a global market. We applaud the growth achieved in student success in recent years but acknowledge the goal of graduating all students to meet postsecondary readiness standards has yet to be achieved.
To continue the progress that has been made and to achieve the goal that all students are ready for higher education and the workforce, TBEC advocates a focus on the following key issues: 1) Accountability and Assessment 2) College/Career Readiness and Student Success 3) Teacher Availability and Quality 4) Higher Education Access and Articulation

At TBEC we are committed to helping all students develop a purpose for staying in school. Education is for learning, earning and living. The research on students who identify career interests in middle school and develop 4- 6 or 8- year educational plans related to their career interests indicates they are more successful in school, college, and the workplace than students who do not develop education and career plans.
As economic development strategies become more competitive, nationally and internationally, education and training become more critical to the entire economic development process. As we consider avenues to build growth strategies and assist the business community in becoming more competitive and prosperous, the education system becomes a top player. |

In a partnership with Kuder, Inc., TBEC is working to implement a statewide research-based education and career planning system: theTBEC Achieve Texas Education and Career Planning System. Our goal is to provide all students with lifetime web-based tools for education and career planning.
